Coronation Street star Mark Frost has revealed that he thinks it’s important for the soap to have characters who ‘show little respect for community’ such as Donald Trump.
The actor portrays sinister Ray Crosby in the ITV serial drama, a character who is hellbent on destroying the eponymous street, and has shown little regard for all those who live there.
Speaking about the hotelier and his inclusion in the soap, Mark told Metro.co.uk: ‘These characters exist. Without wanting to get too political, we’ve had a president of the free world who has shown little respect for community arguably, and is a much maligned figure — although splits opinion obviously.
‘Those characters exist, it’s kind of important.
Mark also revealed that he finds playing Ray ‘joyful.’
He said: ‘As an actor, there is something joyful about playing somebody who has a completely different moral compass. Who just doesn’t care about what people think. There is something quite liberating — and sad, of course.
Ray has been intent on buying up all the properties on the eponymous street — with some assistance from secret accomplice Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney).
The residents of the cobbles put two and two together, after Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) and Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) did some digging.
