Michael Greco’s Instagram account has been hacked, he has confirmed.
Fans of the EastEnders star were left confused earlier this week when several selfies of a man were posted on the Beppe di Marco actor’s social media account.
The photos in question were subsequently removed, but have since been replaced with several snaps of other people.
Michael, 50, described the incident as ‘deeply intrusive’, given that the hacker has access to photos of his son Gianluca, who was born in July.
‘As everyone can see, I’ve been hacked,’ he told Metro.co.uk in a statement. ‘And whilst in the big scheme of things, its just a social media platform for my partner and I, it is deeply personal as this person has access to our son’s Gianluca photos.
‘This feels deeply intrusive. Especially as he was seriously ill and in the ICU in Great Ormond Street for the first 7 weeks of his life.
‘I’m sure, like so many other people in the public eye, Ive been contacted by the person saying if I pay money they will hand back the account.
‘Pure and utter blackmail. Ordinarily, for me I wouldn’t care but I feel deeply protective over my son. I have spoken with Instagram and they are helping.
‘In the meantime anyone getting friend requests, requests for money under my names please know its not me.’
Michael previously used his Instagram account to keep fans updated about son Gianluca, who was born with gastroschisis, a rare genetic disorder when the baby’s abdomen does not develop fully while in the womb.
The 50-year-old later told fans that he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the love and support he’d received in the wake of his son’s birth.
‘Thankfully he seems to be over the worst of his troubles but it’s still
too early to see if his bowel will settle down and start to function
normally’, he wrote in August.
‘Probably the hardest few weeks of my life but we are so in love with this beautiful, strong boy and nothing else really matters right now.’
Michael played EastEnders’ Beppe di Marco for four years between 1998 and 2002. He has also appeared in several other popular programmes, including Casualty and Doctors.
