Emma Willis, 43, addressed her husband Matt Willis’, 36, “problems” after he suffered from a meltdown after his band Busted parted ways in 2005. The musician went into rehab for alcohol and drug addition at the time.
The Voice UK presenter spoke out about the situation in a recently unearthed interview with the Daily Mail’s Event Magazine in 2015.

Emma explained in reference to Matt’s struggles: “It wasn’t straightforward.
“It wasn’t like he went into rehab and that was it. It took time and I understood it was going to be like that.
“He had a lot of problems. But you don’t walk away from someone because they have problems.”

The television personality went on to say she could see who her other half truly was “underneath all that”.
She added: “You have to see who they are underneath all that, and I could see who Matt was.
“I could see this decent, funny bloke just struggling, and I was going to be there.”
Matt returned to rehab several times over a period of three years, but achieved sobriety in 2008.
Emma also reflected on when she introduced her partner to her family after “developing a radar for good guys”.
She recalled: “I think I surprised myself. I remember going home to my mum and dad’s with this 21-year-old guy with tattoos everywhere and a blue Mohican and not quite explaining what was going on because I wasn’t quite sure myself.
“We were there for a couple of hours and Matt was just chatting away.
“My mum thought he was great and from the start both of them were really supportive.”

Matt and Emma have been married since 2008 and renewed their vows in 2018 surrounded by family and friends.
The couple share three children, Isabelle, 10, Ace, eight, and Trixie, three.
Emma recently explained to The Telegraph that Matt began to change when they welcomed their first baby into the world.
She divulged: “What really changed him was our daughter, Isabelle. Isabelle was his real…
“Oh God, I’m going to start crying. Isabelle was his real focus. He was already doing it [recovery] himself, then she arrived and that made him even more determined.”

The TV personality was then quizzed by the publication about her advice for those who are struggling with addiction.
She admitted: “I wish I knew, I’d make a b****y fortune. I’m not an addict, so it’s a really hard thing to understand.
“Matt probably first went to rehab [in 2005] to get us all off his back. Then your relationship progresses and you realise that there is a real issue, and it’s not just a young kid who has got a lot of money very quickly.
“But until he realised it had to change, there’s nothing I could have done. Nothing.”
The Voice UK airs tonight at 8.30pm on ITV.
